UFO release single from Werewolves of London reissue

British rock legends UFO have released an exciting live version of “Only You Can Rock Me” from the forthcoming reissue of 1998’s live recording Werewolves of London (Live In Wolverhampton). The show saw the reunited band, following the release of the awesome Walk On Water album from ’95 – which featured the classic line-up of Phil Mogg, Paul Raymond, Michael Schenker, Andy Parker and Pete Way. Parker left following Walk On Water, and was replaced on tour by Simon Wright (AC/DC, Dio). Werewolves of London is a great recording of UFO still sounding as energetic as they had 2 decades earlier. The set list was still comprised largely of the classics that featured on their classic Strangers In The Night live album, as well as including a few (then) new outstanding tracks from Walk On Water (“A Self Made Man”, “Venus” and “Pushed To The Limit”), plus a pair gems with “Electric Phase” (from 1977’s Lights Out) and “One More For The Rodeo” (from ’78’s Obsession).

From the press release – “this fantastic concert album is being remastered and re-released on both physical and digital formats. Hear the group rip through several highlights from Walk On Water (“Pushed To The Limit,” “A Self Made Man”) as well as their best-loved works, the unstoppable juggernauts “Doctor Doctor,” “Lights Out,” “Rock Bottom” and more! By way of previewing the release, the group’s killer version of “Only You Can Rock Me” is being released as a single, which will be followed by the full album on CD and audiophile quality 180 GRAM BLACK vinyl on February 17. Additional vinyl colors – RED, YELLOW, BLUE & PURPLE – will be released a few weeks later on March 24th. Order yours now!”

UFO : Walk On Water on vinyl!

UFO’s comeback album Walk On Water from 1995 is finally getting released on vinyl. Walk On Water saw Michael Schenker return to the band, reuniting the classic line up with Phil Mogg, Paul Raymond, Andy Parker and Pete Way. This is my favorite UFO album, and arguably their best studio recording, being beefed up with re-recordings of the band’s classics “Doctor Doctor” and “Lights Out”. It featured a number of great riffs, and heavy rockers “Self-Made Man”, “Venus”, and “Pushed To The Limit” – which all featured in the band’s live show, as well (my own) favorites “Darker Days” and “Dreaming Of Summer”. Every track on this album rocks. I always put Walk On Water alongside Deep Purple’s Purpendicular (94) and Uriah Heep’s Sea of Light (95) as the best comeback albums (or just best albums!) of the ’90s.

By the time Walk On Water came out Andy Parker was not on the tour, nor the 2 follow-up albums w/ Schenker. When I saw the band in Buffalo (a show recorded and used as ‘bonus’ material on the next album) Simon Wright (ex AC/DC, Dio) was in the band), and the band was selling a version of the CD at shows with 1 less track. The album’s cover varied from country to country when it came out as well. This vinyl edition of Walk On Water features the band’s 8 new songs on the LP, and the 2 re-recordings on an accompanying 7 inch vinyl. Also being released on vinyl is the band’s live album Werewolves Of London (Live in Wolverhampton 1998). Werewolves is also being reissued on cassette & CD. *I believe this just leaves the 2 follow-ups to Walk On WaterCovenant (2000) and Sharks (2002) as the band’s only studio albums yet to be issued on vinyl LP.

UFO’s No Heavy Petting: Remastered Deluxe Edition

Hard Rock Legends UFO’s “No Heavy Petting” Remastered Deluxe Edition 2CD and 3LP 180g Clear Vinyl Available January 20, 2023

British rockers UFO’s 5th studio album, 3rd with Michael Schenker on guitar. No Heavy Petting would be the lone UFO to feature keyboard player Danny Peyronel (ex Heavy Metal Kids), a classic album that would be a good indicator of what was to come over the next few years. Peyronel may have only been around for this album, but he did contribute the classic track “Highway Lady”, as well as co-writing “Can You Roll Her” – which makes a nice opening track on the added live show to this package. No Heavy Petting is a favorite amongst UFO fans, including me, as it includes such UFO favorites as “Natural Thing”, “I’m A Loser”, “On With The Action”, and the ballad “Belladonna”. Disc one also includes 6 ‘bonus’ tracks, most of which were issued years ago. It is the 2nd disc here that makes this package so much worth getting — UFO Live at The Roundhouse, although previously released on CD, in the 90s, this is finally being issued on vinyl. I hadn’t heard this show previously, but it sounds amazing here! Featuring 12 tracks, mostly from the band’s then-new album, and the previous 2, shows how many great songs the band had already, with half of this set eventually making it to the band’s iconic Strangers In The Night double-live album in ’79. Danny Peyronel would be replaced by Paul Raymond (RIP), and the ‘classic’ line-up of UFO featuring Raymond, Phil Mogg, Pete Way (RIP), Andy Parker, and Schenker would go on to greater success for the rest of the decade, but UFO’s great run of albums had already begun, with No Heavy Petting being one of the band’s best, sitting right in the middle of the Michael Schenker era.

Hard Rock Legends UFO’s “No Heavy Petting” Remastered Deluxe Edition 2CD and 3LP 180g Clear Vinyl will be available January 20, 2023! Originally released in 1975, “No Heavy Petting” is UFO’s fifth studio album and the last to be produced by Ten Years After’s Leo Lyons. Stepping up from the rawer sound of “Force It,” the album was their first to feature a permanent keyboard player in the band and gave a nod to what was to come. The album includes a number of tracks that were to become staples of their live set for many years, including “Natural Thing” and “I’m A Loser.”

The newly remastered 2CD digipak with an O card deluxe version includes 5 bonus tracks (one previously unreleased), a poster booklet, and features the Roundhouse 1976 live set. The newly remastered clear vinyl 3LP gatefold deluxe version includes the Roundhouse 1976 live set previously unavailable on vinyl.

JOHN SLOMAN – New Album, Two Rivers to be Released Soon

John Sloman is firmly established as one of the ‘voices of rock’. Famed for his octave straddling voice, John has performed with Gary Moore, Uriah Heep, Lone Star and UFO, among many others, and he is to release a new album titled ‘Two Rivers’. Two Rivers will be preceded by a 2 track digital single on Red Steel on October 29th 2021.

Lifted from his magnificently strange and exquisite album Two Rivers the single is called “This River Is A Time Machine”. This digital-only 2 track single is backed with an alternate take “This River – The Instrumental”, as the ‘B-side which is not included on the forthcoming album.

Please credit Jeff Moh

The album is described as – “having traces of a major stage production with elements of acoustic Zeppelin evident along with several other references. Even Zapperesque at times.”

John is also working on a retrospective collection with tracks drawn from his deep well of solo albums titled ‘Conspectus’. Furthermore, there is a full series of back catalogue remasters for release in 2022 as well as more new material to follow…

The album’s cover-art is based on a photo by Jeff Moh then painted by Callum Fernandes-Clarke, all put together with Callum and John.
